Dr. Liqiao Ma is a Board Certified Dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology who practices medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology in Austin and the surrounding communities. She is originally from Norman, Oklahoma, and attended Duke University for undergraduate studies. She then moved to Texas for medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where she graduated with honors as a member of Junior Alpha Omega Alpha, awarded to the top 10% of her class.
Dr. Ma briefly left Texas to complete her internal medicine intern year at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. She returned for residency training in Dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where she served as Chief Resident during her final year. During all three years of Dermatology residency, she received the Award for Cognitive Excellence that is given to residents who score >90th percentile in the national exams.
Dr. Ma trained with national leaders in the field of medical dermatology, and has an interest in managing complicated rashes like blistering rashes, autoimmune disorders, and pigmentary abnormalities, among others. As a Chief Resident, she spent her last year of residency at the Dallas VA Hospital taking care of veterans and those with chronic sun damage. This is where her admiration for this population grew. She has since devoted her time practicing skin cancer prevention and treatment in the smaller communities. She feels privileged taking care of the whole family over the years and seeing familiar faces again and again.
In her spare time, Dr. Ma enjoys spending time with her husband, who is an Emergency Medicine physician, and their chocolate lab.
