Actinic Keratosis

These are small rough dry spots that are usually found on the face, hands and arms. They are caused by sun exposure and are actually the earliest form of a skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. If you have fair skin, freckle easily, live in a sunny place or have ever had a sunburn, you are at risk for getting an actinic keratosis. If actinic keratosis doesn’t get treated in time, it can progress to invasive squamous cell carcinoma, which can be deadly. For this reason it is important to wear sunscreen every day and get regular skin exams by one of our network of providers at Tru-Skin Dermatology.

Atopic Dermatiti

This is the fabled “eczema” and it seems like the skin can never get enough moisture! Dry areas get itchy, leading to scratching. Scratching leads to infection, which makes the itching even worse! The skin care experts at Tru-Skin dermatology can offer real solutions for patients suffering with Atopic Dermatitis. To schedule an appointment, click here.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

This is usually a pink to white shiny smooth bump on the skin that slowly enlarges and won’t ever heal or go away. Sometimes they bleed, then heal, then bleed again. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common cancer in the world, yet it usually causes no itch or pain whatsoever. Left untreated these become disfiguring to the skin. Tru-Skin Dermatology is proud be the first dermatology network in central Texas to offer the highest cure rates for both surgical and non-surgical options. Mohs surgery has long been known to have the highest surgical cure rate, while the SRT-100 offers the highest cure rate without surgery or pain? Both offer excellent cosmetic results. Birthmarks

We’ve all seen these tan to brown spots on the skin that have been there since we were born. Because these brown spots contain cells called melanocytes, it is important to have them checked regularly to make sure they are not transforming into a dangerous skin cancer called melanoma. In addition, any other moles on the skin need to be checked regularly as well. This is because any tan or brown spot, as well as some pink spots can turn into a very dangerous skin cancer called melanoma. If detected early, melanoma can have an excellent survival rate, but if caught late can mean surgery, chemotherapy, even death. At Tru-Skin Dermatology we take melanoma seriously, and offer the gold standard in diagnostic technology, epiluminescent dermoscopy. This device allows our providers to see into the deeper layers of pigment in your moles, increasing our chances of catching your melanoma at the earliest possible stage. So if you haven’t had your moles checked in a while, or if you have a new or changing mole, schedule an appointment at Tru-Skin Dermatology today by clicking here.

Bear in mind that melanoma occurs most often on the back or legs, so a full body skin exam is strongly recommended if you have any of the following risk factors: any history of sunburn, red or blond hair, blue or green eyes, multiple moles or a family history of melanoma.
