Performing IPL Photofacials in Austin and Cedar Park, TX

What is a Photofacial?

A photofacial is a form of professional skincare that uses advanced fluorescent technology (AFT) pulsed light to rejuvenate and restore skin that has been damaged by the sun and elements or has begun to show signs of aging. The procedure is non-invasive and utilizes the power of high-intensity light pulses to treat fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, rosacea, and other skin imperfections.

What are the Benefits of Getting a Photofacial?

Photofacials provide many benefits to the skin, helping it to look younger and feel rejuvenated. Not to mention, it also fades discolorations of the skin caused by the sun or aging. Over a series of sessions, IPL treatments will help you see all of the following benefits:

  • Improvement of sunspots, age spots, and skin discoloration
  • Smoother skin with a more even tone
  • Minimized pore size
  • Improvement in fine lines
  • Reduction of redness and improvement in rosacea and broken capillaries

Who is a Good Candidate for a Photofacial?

IPL skin treatments are most effective for adults who are experiencing skin imperfections either due to aging or a skin condition. Those individuals with fine lines, wrinkles, acne or injury scars, age spots, or other skin discoloration make the best candidates for an IPL facial. Patients with melasma are not considered good candidates, as this treatment can actually worsen that condition. Our team will be able to determine if this is the best treatment option for you during a consultation appointment. We’ll take into account the severity of the condition as well as your skin tone to provide you with the appropriate recommendation to improve your skin.

What Can I Do to Prepare for IPL Treatment?

To make sure your IPL treatment provides the best results possible, there are some steps you can take prior to your appointment. It is very important that the area you want to treat is not tanned or exposed to direct sunlight for two weeks before your treatment. You can prevent sun exposure by using SPF when you go outdoors, even if only for a brief period. It’s also essential that you avoid smoking, moisturize your skin regularly, and stop the usage of topical retinoids and alpha/beta hydroxy acids for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.  These actions will help to aid in healing and achieving the best possible results.

What Should I Expect During the Treatment?

Our light therapy treatments are relatively simple and result in little to no discomfort. During the appointment, our practitioner will begin by applying a cold gel to the treatment area. Based on the evaluation of your skin completed during your consultation, we’ll choose the appropriate light setting to produce the best results. Using our advanced light therapy device, we’ll deliver precise pulses of light to the skin. The treatment is usually completed in as little as 30 minutes, making it a quick visit to our office. Even though the procedure is completely safe, both you and our practitioner will wear goggles or some sort of eye protection.

What Results Can I Expect After Treatment?

Following your appointment, you may experience redness in the treatment area for a few days. It may look and feel similar to a sunburn. Some of the dark spots may temporarily appear darker before fading. It is uncommon to experience scabs or blisters, but if this occurs, it’s important not to pick at the skin as this could damage it. You’ll be able to wear makeup, and you should apply sunscreen daily to protect the skin during healing. After about a week, your skin should be healed, revealing a smoother, even skin tone. We recommend a series of 3 to five treatments based on your skin’s individual needs, spaced 30 days apart, to achieve optimal results.
