July is UV Awareness Month!

Be smart this summer and protect yourself from harmful Ultraviolet rays. The sun emits radiation as UV-A and UV-B rays. Both can do serious damage to your skin and eyes.
Learning the risks associated with excessive sun exposure and taking the right precautions to protect your skin can help everyone enjoy summer safely! Some of the risks of excessive sun exposure are:

  • Vision Impairement
  • Premature Aging of the Skin
  • Suppression of the Immune System
  • Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the most dangerous of these listed. It affects over 4 million Americans every year and causes about 10,000 deaths. This is a perfect time for us to highlight The Shade Project!

Founded by Dr. Daniel Ladd and his wife Lurleen, The Shade Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of skin cancer and skin cancer related deaths through sun safety education, promotion of skin cancer screenings and the implementation of shade in public spaces.
If you want to help with the mission of providing skin cancer awareness and prevention, you can visit their website here.
